On the East Coast a wide Bay welcomes its capital, Karpathos also called Pigadia ; the latter developed only in recent years as it overlooks the colourful fishing harbour, with its taverns, typical restaurants and shops that dot the downtown nightlife of Karpathos. About 8 km south of Pigadia is Amoopi, a beautiful resort with Flash lens and really beautiful beaches. In the less known of the island, about 17 miles from Pigadia, there is the village of Arkasa, which are within easy reach of the most popular beaches by surfers.

In the northern part of the island is Delicate, small port connected by a small road to Olympos, small village perched on a mountain as a medieval castle that preserves ancient costumes and folk traditions which have become the subject of study by many ethnologists.

The southern and the northern part of the island are separated by the mountain range that crosses Karpathos and have evolved independently over the centuries.
