Amargos,Cyclades islands Greece.

Amorgos Cyclade islands,Greece.

The island of  Amargos the easternmost of the Cyclades islands. Amorgos is the ideal island for those who really want to pull the plug and leave the real world. 138 square kilometers of arid and uneven surface where there are few people who have managed to preserve customs, landscapes, places really special.
The tourist attractions of the island of Amorgos
Even from the point of view of tourism Amorgos offers gems, starting from Chora, one of the most beautiful of the Cyclades, with its white buildings that rise on the plateau at 400 meters above sea level at the foot of a small medieval castle (Kastro) erected in the thirteenth century by the Venetians, surrounded by small windmills built on the surrounding hills. When not enjoying the quiet of the town and the stunning landscape, you can visit the Archaeological Museum full of exhibits that illustrate the importance of this island over the centuries.

Another important center of the island and main port is Katapola: a relatively large bay where there are three villages Xilokeratidi the westernmost of which is best known as the fishing village. From there you can get with "water taxis" the beaches of Amorgos and the nearby islets.

In the Gulf of Eyiali, in the northeastern part of the island is the only beach typically ciclidica: a long stretch of white sand, clear water and shallow, tourist facilities of good standard. Even here though there are hills and cliffs that rise above the village of the wider Gulf.

The Monastery Hosoviotissa
The greatest tourist attraction is certainly the island of Amorgos Monastery Hozoviotissa, an apparition of a dazzling white set in the rock overlooking the sea. Built in the eleventh century, the monastery is still inhabited by monks available to guide you through the eight floors of the building illustrandovene history also extremely interesting. The monastery, which develops almost exclusively in height was in fact built by exploiting the layered rock wall communicating with each other mainly through external stairs: the monks' cells, the refectory, the store, the main chapel. The monastery also houses a miraculous icon found in the waters below the cliff. The monastery is located a short distance from Chora you can then get to walk it down the cliff and taking some of the most beautiful landscapes of the Cyclades
